Careful with blanket statements about "stainless". The austenitic varieties (e.g. 304 & 316) generally don't have a brittle transition. However, ferritic, martensitic and duplex stainless steels generally _do_ have a brittle transition.
They are generally better than carbon steels in that regard, but...

Yes, that's a good point -- I was being too terse. I should have at least said "selected types of". For stainless you need to check the fine print.
