As often happens, while searching on another subject, I came upon this
excellent paper from the Journal of Propulsion and Power on Advanced Rocket
Nozzles, including altitude compensating nozzles.
Some interesting nozzles are in the paper:

(actually proceeded to hot fire testing, noted here on ARocket previously)
