Seems like it could be adapted fairly easily to rocket recovery
systems, with a shuttlecock at body diameter or made of flexible
elements. Could a nice 3rd person view of the rocket landing, rather
than the usual view from the body tube.
I attempted something similar on one of the last Armadillo launches,
attaching a camera to the rope between the rocket and the ballute
pointing down at the rocket, but the shock on the rope ripped the guts
out of the camera. There's a micro SD card with an interesting video
somewhere in the desert southeast of Spaceport America.
Far from amateur, this video SpaceX posted of the view up from a
falling fairing is the most beautiful rocketry video I've ever seen.
The mach diamonds in the tenuous gas flowing through the ports toward
the bottom are amazing, as is the view of the gas converging overhead.
