Well, it seems to me that regedit (or any of a number of slightly better (and
still free)
regedit clones) is a fine configuration app...
and the fact is that if you're addicted to notepad, ;-) you can always export
your settings to
a .reg file and edit them there.
I do suppose that Dave's comment about putting a whole install in a directory
by itself
makes sense in the sense that you could have mulitple installs ... but I don't
acutally see
the use for that, I mean, the registry WILL (automatically, without fancy theme
switchers
or dual installs) allow each user to have their own configuration ... and you
can use those
.reg files to share your themes ...
To me ... the crowning reason for using the registry is the ability to be
notified whenever a
setting changes ... which could theoritically mean dynamic configs without
manually
recycling
