same e-mail alias two different locations

Hi all,
I have a problem with a client of mine.
I will describe the situation.
He has a sbs 2000 server with pop 3 mailboxes.
His exchange smtp adress is example@xxxxxxxxxxxx and his pop 3 mailboxes
also are @exchange.com. Sending mail and receiving works fine but
if he sends an e-mail to an collague of him in Italy with alias
@echange.com the exchange server sends an e-mail back that this e-mail
adress does not exist.
I know what the problem is that he looks at hos own domain and that's why
he comes with that message.
Is there a solution for this?
