I agree about the spy-ware. Does the problem only occur on the user's profile (that particular user)?? If you login to his machine, do you experience the same problem? If you don't face the same problem then you can simply login as an admin, move the user's profile to let's say C:\ and then have the user login again to create a new profile. Then, you can move all docs, PST or PAB files and favorites back from the old profile to the new one. DO NOT copy everything from the old profile as you might copy some file that might be causing the profile. Also, just as a suggestion, it would be probably a wise thing to convince your management to remove the DOMAIN USERS from the Local ADMINISTRATOR group so that the user does not have the ability to install software from the internet. You will face some problems at times when installing valid programs but that's where you come in place as an admin to figure out what files or registry keys the program is trying to modify and then give them permissions to those files/directories and/or registry keys only. NEVER give them "Modify" permission to the Windows folder. We have had a great success in avoiding tremendous number of problems we used to face with NT due to users' lack of knowledge or excessive power on their box! This might sounds like communism by restricting users but it's the best way to avoid and reduce/eliminate problems like this and focus on real problems! Another thing you might want to check is open the registry under the user's profile who is having the problem, delete any unnecessary items from the \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key in both HK_LOCAL MACHINE and HK_CURRENT_USER Check the STARTUP folder for both "All Users" profile and the user who is having the problem for any suspicious programs. Hope this helps! You may find something after a scan with it. -----Original Message----- From: John Tolmachoff (Lists) [mailto:johnlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 1:36 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: OT: Windows XP computer and Ctrl Key sticks. - Problem Expanded http://www.MSExchange.org/ Thank you for providing more details. This is why it is always important to explain things out a bit when posting a problem. Try looking at what programs are starting automatically and also doing a search on new files within the last 2 days.
